Khrome Studios evolved from Direct Designs Home, a trade showroom based in San Francisco. In 1984, Karen McMullen (a budding interior designer) and Steve Hansen (sales rep and store owner) partnered to present a 3 year old company, DellaRobbiaUSA. The first show was at the Concourse during the Spring SF Market in 1985, and the first showroom (1600 SQ FT) was opened at the SFM that fall. By 1991 the showroom had grown to 4800 square feet and the partnership dissolved with Hansen continuing his work, and McMullen focusing on the interior design trade. In the following decade, DDH had grown to 12,000 square feet with a staff of talented interior designers and hospitality reps, showcasing the amazing lines of such talented designers: Nancy Genova, Goodman Charlton, Michael Wolk and the DR Design Studios. Some of the lines were: Calligaris, Creative Elegance, and John Charles Designs.
With the opening of the Las Vegas Market, the SF Market days were dwindling and McMullen jumped on the opportunity to move to the heart of the Design District, opening in The Showplace at 2 Henry Adams in 2010.
Through all these changes and lateral moves, McMullen never left sight of seeking out the best, fresh and modern furnishings for the Interior Design Trade.
The partnership between these remarkable companies and McMullen continues to this day. A testimony to innovation, quality and satisfaction of both the factories and designers.
Khrome Studios™ was a pivot. Both by expansion to our current location at The Showplace, Suite 305, and the re-branding of the company, Khrome Studios also became a source for hospitality and contract.
Khrome Studios is focused on the art of design and to that note, support local artists in the community with a rotating art exhibition.
We still travel the world looking for outstanding products and designs. We hope you continue to enjoy and shop at Khrome Studios.
